About Hiking Thru Transitions

Hiking Thru Transitions is the brain child of me, Sage Rowbotham. I am a 27 year old man of transgender experience who grew up in the outdoors of rural Maine. Ever since I can remember I always loved being outside, It was there that I had the space to be myself. Whether I was swimming, fishing, boating, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, exploring the nearby woods, lakes and ponds by foot and canoe, camping or catching the sun rise and set, I was always the happiest when I was out of doors. At 16 I taught snowboard lessons at a local ski mountain and then at 18 I joined the ski patrol. I always knew my passion lied within nature while helping others. It was in those moments I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to sharing the great nourishing, healing and transformative powers of nature with other like minded individuals.1225180932

So I asked myself, “How do I do just that? How do I empower other queer and transgender individuals like me? Is it possible to give them the opportunity to grow and succeed the way nature gave it to me?”

Answer- Yes, through guided backcountry wilderness experiences! It took me two years of hiking, backpacking, yoga and soul searching to have put it all together into one movement. I have decided to take on the goal of being certified as a Registered Maine Guide, giving me the credentials to guide up to 12 individuals at a time on backcountry immersion experiences. I wish to pass on the tools and knowledge you’ll need to feel safe and confident in the wilderness, carrying these skills over into your everyday life. I also wish to share how to properly care for your body in nature through stretching and mindfulness practices as well as preparing healthy, dehydrated food for sustained nutrition.

Diving into nature can be scary but as can be diving into life. We must find ourselves before we can create ourselves and I’ll be with you every step of the way.

I hope to talk soon as you follow along on my journey! Happy trails, Sage.
